Went to Story Slam at the lawrence arts center last night - drew the banjo player who went on before the story tellers. Such a lovely evening.
Primarily I'm a painter and printmaker - but I want to improve my drawing skills. This is my sketch blog - where I document my drawing practice. I'm working through Drawing Lab for Mixed-Media Artists by Carla Sonheim, as well as other drawing books.

Bench
Was really not feeling it today - but I have a series of paintings brewing in my head that involve castle-like interiors - so at Tony's violin lesson I drew the legs of the teacher's ornate bench. I need to eventually start thinking about composition before I start - but not today. Today I was just doing well to get out a pencil

Planning
Sketches for a painting series I'm working on for an upcoming show. I can tell that my daily drawing practice is paying off - it's so much easier to now to sketch what I want my paintings to look like. And really - improving my paintings is the main point to all this.

Auto parts
I'm subbing high school auto tech today. I had no idea this even existed. These kids are hilarious sitting around bs-ing about cars all hour. Forgot my sketch book today! But the teacher had a stash of lovely blue pencils in his desk. And this random car part on his desk. Thermostat thing? Who knows :)

Middle school figure studies
Taught middle school art today - and the class was doing figure sketching!! Kids took turns standing on the tables for 10 minutes while the class drew them - so I joined in for a few.

Working in an old sketch
I penciled in these people quickly at fric and frac weeks ago. Never finished the drawing. So today I added fric details in from memory. It's a strange picture now. I kinda like it :)
Ergonomics
Subbing high school business education today. I still find the sight of kids sitting at a computer desk with a laptop on their laps and a smart phone in their pockets to be kinda mind boggling. But that's cuz im old :)
