Hibernating bear sketch for a new painting I'm working on 

I don't usually use ebony pencils but I pulled one out for the bear and it worked well for all those dark shadows

They were really having a lot more fun than it looks like in this picture :)

Crafty drawing

I subbed preschool today. I sat at the art table with a boy who was explaining to me how much he loved cutting snow flakes and how he could do it forever.  I agree.

For most of my life I have been vehemently anti-mechanical pencils. But lately I've been giving them a second chance - mostly because I can carry them around in my bag - wooden pencils fail at that. The points break off and they are useless. So Ya - this was mechanical pencil. Works for small stuff - I think id still prefer wooden pencil if I was working big.

From summer

While I was digging through a bag for supplies for a different project I came across another sketchbook from last summer - during that time where I had no camera and wasn't posting photos. I kinda love them - looking forward to warmer weather so I can get out and do more of these.

Outside Martin nature center in Okc - done while waiting for jonas to wake up from the same nap I mentioned in a post a couple days ago - traveling wore him out :)

Roanoke park - clearly I didn't plan my composition ahead of time - or I wouldn't have stuck that trash can smack dab in the middle like that. Not sure what I was thinking there.

I'm down to the last 4 pages of my sketch book (I love this moment!) so I'm just going to post a last batch of my favorite sketches that I haven't posted yet. 

From a trip to Oklahoma - jonas fell asleep in the car on a trip to Martin nature center - so I let him sleep and sketched him.

Went to lunch with Jesse and after he left I drew the bottom of this huge tree. 

I locked my keys in the car - drew this while I waited for Jesse to rescue me. Added color later.

Cats

Nobody will sit still in the evenings so I can draw them. Least of all my cats.

I drew my boot at basketball practice. Focused on shading.

I love this sketch. He looks so cozy. I made the sofa bigger than it is so he looks even more enveloped in it. Arm to head ratio may be completely wrong - but I think I'm moving in the right direction

Froggie

Next in the quicky blobby animal series. I might have to break down and start doing a quick pencil sketch to start. That head is just wrong. 

Chat chat

I have a New Years resolution to internet less - so while chatting online with a friend I drew the pencil jar on the desk instead of browsing Facebook. Yay!

Jonas was cranky while we were out walking so he decided to lay down and be grumpy in the grass. I wasn't in a hurry that day - so I just let him lay there as long as he wanted and scribbled this sketch with the pencil in my pocket. 

Eyes

Today's secret of drawing heads was about drawing eyes. Which I already feel pretty strong on, but practice never hurts.
